WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid and pushed their record back above the .500 mark with a 90-82 win over Henderson State on Thursday night at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
SWOSU held the GAC's leading scorer Aungelique Sledge below her season average of 22.6 points and they limited the Lady Reddies to 32.5% (27-of-83) shooting from the field. Krystal Beechum and Dulincia Keener each stepped in and recorded double-doubles for HSU, who SWOSU defeated despite allowing 26 offensive rebounds.
In her return to the lineup,
Taryn Sayama came off the bench to score 20 points in 16 minutes of action.
Michelle Fisher struggled from the field, hitting just 6-of-20 field goal attempts, but still managed to score 18 points after connecting on 6-of-9 free throws.
Sarina Sayama and
Sarah Mendoza also contributed offensively, scoring 17 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs struggled to rebound the ball early in the game and faced a significant deficit on the boards until
Jaimee Cohen came into the game. Cohen grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the first half and finished with 13 for the game, tying the most by a SWOSU player in a game this season.
Jessica Penner was also steady in the post, finishing 4-for-4 from the field for eight points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
The win improves the Lady Bulldogs to 7-6 (4-3 GAC) on the year heading into a home game against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday. The game tips off at 2:00 pm and it is the final regular season game the team will play at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
