WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The visitors from Colorado Mesa, the No. 13-ranked team in NCAA Division II, spoiled an upset bid from SWOSU on Saturday night, downing the Lady Bulldogs 82-68 on the second night of the SWOSU Classic.
Colorado Mesa shot 63.6% (21-of-33) from the field after the break, connecting on 5-of-10 attempts from long range and outscoring SWOSU 52-36 in the half. Sharay Selsor led the Mavericks with 39 points in 36 minutes of action. Selsor hit 13-of-27 field goal attempts and 5-of-9 three pointers on her way to a career night.
SWOSU took a 45-40 lead with 15:40 to play but were held without a field goal for nearly six minutes while CMU went on a 15-0 run to take a 55-45 lead with 9:52 to play. The Bulldogs managed to get within single digits twice the remainder of the way, but could get no closer than eight points.
Michelle Fisher led SWOSU with 17 points, but she was just 5-of-17 from the field and 3-of-8 from long range. One night after connecting on 16 three pointers, the Lady Bulldogs were held to 5-of-25 (20%) shooting from beyond the arc and 31.8% (21-of-66) shooting from the field.
Jaimee Cohen put in 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench while
Chelsea Bates also reached double figures with 11 points.
The Lady Bulldogs are back at home on Wednesday to host Northeastern State in nonconference action. The game will tipoff at 5:30 pm from Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
