Dawgs Make Quick Work of Cameron in Second Meeting

LAWTON, Okla. – Entering this season, SWOSU volleyball had not claimed a victory over Cameron since reinstating the program in 2005. After needing five sets to defeat the Aggies at home earlier this season, the Bulldogs dispatched of Cameron in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 26-24) on Tuesday night in Lawton to earn the season sweep.


 
The first set saw SWOSU being as efficient as they've been all season, putting down 20 kills against three errors and hitting .362 for the set. After trailing 18-17, SWOSU outscored the Aggies 8-3 down the stretch and behind three kills each from Alison Cole and Carly Zak, who ended the set with her fourth kill of the night.
 
The Bulldogs played strong defense and took advantage of Cameron errors in the final two sets, holding the Aggies to a negative hitting percentage in each. SWOSU blocked nine attempts from CU with a game-high six apiece from Kiley Brennfoerder and Shayne Haley. After trailing for much of the third set, SWOSU closed with six of the final eight points and won the set 26-24 on an attack error from Cameron.
 
Cole led the Bulldogs with 16 kills and hit .414 for the match while also adding three blocks to her SWOSU record total. Joey Collins put down 11 kills and Zak finished with eight, helping the Bulldogs finish with a .195 hitting percentage.
 
Breann Whitaker had 41 assists directing the SWOSU offense while Kenya Williams and Kaila Lancaster anchored the defense with 18 digs apiece. Six different players recorded a block in the match, with Brennfoerder and Haley leading the way with six block assists each.
 
The victory improves SWOSU to 12-19 on the year heading into two home matches to close out the regular season. Recovery time is short for the Bulldogs as they turn around to face Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday at 7 pm inside Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
