A graduate of Friendship High School, Wigginton was co-captain of the Southwestern baseball team that finished second in the nation in 1958, losing to San Diego State University. He was also captain of the basketball team his senior year as the Bulldogs finished as co-champions of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference. After graduating from Southwestern, Wigginton attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned a Masters of Divinity. Wigginton served as pastor of several Baptist churches before coming to Altus where he remained as the pastor of the First Baptist Church for 30 years before retiring in 2001.
