Litsch was a star player on the Bulldogs first-ever NAIA National basketball tournament team in 1953 under legendary coach Rankin Williams. Litsch was a model of consistency on the court which he would later teach to his own daughter, Kelli, who went on to become a star of stars for the school 25 years later. The elder Litsch holds the record for the highest field goal percentage in a season, connecting on 64 percent of his shots in 1956. He earned first-team, all-conference honors as a junior and captained the squad during his senior year. He then coached and taught for 34 years first at Fay and then later at Thomas where he served as principal until his retirement in 1990.
