Shane Brookshire

Shane Brookshire enters his sixth season as the SWOSU Cross Country in 2019 and he will lead the SWOSU Track & Field team into it's fourth year of NCAA Division II competition in the spring of 2020.

Brookshire has led the Bulldog Cross Country team to a top-four finish in three of five years at SWOSU. He was an instrumental part in bringing the Western Oklahoma Showcase to Weatherford, with his team winning the event in 2017 and watching the event grow to include high school races at Rader Park in Weatherford. In the spring of 2017, SWOSU took a new step as Brookshire guided the school's first NCAA Track & Field team into competition.

His teams have routinely performed well in the classroom, claiming three All-Academic awards for the Cross Country Team and two for the Track & Field team over the past five seasons. In his tenure, Brookshire has developed four Second Team All-Great American Conference selections and his teams have competed in three Central Regional Championships.

Following the 2014 season, Brookshire worked towards his United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Endurance Specialist Certification. He received the certification in August 2015. He has since added the USTFCCCA Throwing Events and Strength & Conditioning Specialist certifications in July 2018.

Brookshire came to SWOSU with four years of coaching experience along with five years of collegiate competition. He spent two years as an assistant high school coach in California before returning to the collegiate ranks with stints at Bemidji State and San Jose State.

Before entering coaching, Brookshire had a successful five-year career in cross country and track & field at Cal State Stanislaus where he helped his cross country team to a second place finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in 2007.

A native of Collegeville, Calif., Brookshire earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Cal State Stanislaus in 2010 and he completed work towards a master’s degree from SWOSU in 2015.
