SWOSU Mourns the Loss of Former Football Coach Bob Mazie


WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University mourns the loss of former SWOSU Head Football Coach Bob Mazie, who passed away on Thursday.
 
Mazie was the head coach at SWOSU from 1978-85, leading the Bulldogs to a record of 39-37-2 which included Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference (OIC) Championships in 1980 and 1985. He also spent five seasons as an assistant coach at SWOSU from 1966-70 before returning as the defensive coordinator to Otis Delaporte in 1976. While he was the head coach at SWOSU, Mazie coached seven players who reached All-American status, including SWOSU Hall of Famers Gary "Bull" Harper and Carl Birdsong.
 
Originally from Pittsburgh, Penn., Mazie graduated from Waynesburg College and then started coaching on the high school level in Pennsylvania. He later earned a master's degree in physical education from SWOSU before starting a coaching career that included stops at Southern Illinois, Kutztown College and the University of Dayton in between stints with the Bulldogs.
